My dried floral fall fireplace decor is some of my favorite fall decor. With warm colors and textures this fall fireplace mantle decor really stands out and makes the colors of the season the focus.
I’ve told myself that I really want to cut back on fall decor this year. With our kids’ fall schedules and the recipe book that I’m working on – plus trying to keep up with recipes and new content for the blog – I wanted to keep things simple. For me, keeping things simple means keeping things natural, not buying too many things and finding decor that can extend throughout the seasons.
My seasonal decor dilemma
I knew I wanted to create our fall mantle using real foliage this season. Last Christmas I used faux foliage to create our Christmas mantle and while it was beautiful and classic and had a look that I love, the faux florals didn’t feel as much like me. However, each season I run into a little issue because our land has been using for farming for generations. And part of our land still is used for farming and cattle feed. But, that means we don’t have a lot of naturally growing foliage that I can utilize for our seasonal decor.
Since moving to the farm we’ve planted a lot of life – the massive garden, the flower fields for our cut flower and over 20 trees. But life and growth takes time. Feeling comfortable using that growth for my indoor decor also takes a little time because I want to make sure I’m not over-pruning something for the sake of decoration.
New dried floral pieces
In going back to natural decor this year, I ran up against the same supply issues that I’ve always had. So, I decided to order some dried fall florals. Now. I’ve done this before. In fact I have a whole post on my favorite dried fall florals and faux florals {HERE}. In the past I’ve used both of them together to make fall decor and it’s looked beautiful. Luckily, dried real foliage keeps as well as the faux foliage if you take care of it and I’ve been able to utilize that year after year too. This season I was specifically shopping for my fireplace mantle to create dried floral fall fireplace decor so I was able to focus in on two things I wanted – texture and a combination of green and orange.
This seasons colors
I tend to miss the deep, rich greens in the fall and green is actually my favorite color. I knew I wasn’t quite ready to give them up when I found myself ordering this Fresh Olive Leaf and Myrtle Garland {HERE}. Then to compliment that and bring in the rusty orange tones I also purchased leave real magnolia leaves {HERE}. We can’t really grow any of these plants here – although I believe their are some types of magnolia that will survive our winters – so ordering them was really the only thing I could do. And that’s it. That’s all I ordered. I meant it when I said I needed to stay simple this season. Everything else I already owned. It is either vintage or you can find it in the widget below.
Additionally, I’m keeping my fingers crossed this will stay looking good for a few months. I am planning to leave this dried floral fall fireplace decor mantle in place through Thanksgiving. Also, I’m hoping the olive leaf and myrtle garland will still look good enough to be the base for my Christmas garland too.
Building the mantle
To start making the dried floral fall fireplace decor, I screwed in screws to the mantle itself. We do this in all seasons since our fireplace mantle is so rustic and you really can’t see the holes from season to season. What you can see just adds to the rustic charm. I used floral wire to hang the olive leaf garland across the mantle and onto the screws. I tried to do it without floral wire and couldn’t get it to stay so it was necessary.
Then I clipped pieces of the the magnolia branches and stuck them into the garland. Here and there I had to use a few pieces of floral wire to help hold them in place but that’s it. You can see me doing it {HERE}.
Other elements
As I mentioned above, the other elements that are a part of the dried floral fall fireplace decor are either vintage or I’ve had them for awhile. The candlesticks are from Crate and Barrel a few years ago and you can find them {HERE}. My oil lamp is vintage but you can find something similar {HERE}.
The poultry print is available for purchase {HERE} on my website. It is available for 11×14 printing. It is vintage art from the 1800s that I have procured and have made available for sale. Due to the fact that it is vintage art, no other sizes are available. The frame can be found {HERE}.
My mirror is something I purchased a few months ago and I love the shape of it. It works beautifully on the fireplace and replaces the one I worked on last Christmas {HERE} to warm up the space. You can find it {HERE}.
