Decorating our farmhouse fall porch has become somewhat of a tradition for me. We use the porch the most in the fall. Spring is too busy, summer is often hot and winter…well, it’s West Michigan. But fall here is perfection.
For this year’s front porch I was determined not to spend a lot of money. In fact, you can read about all the ways I saved money making this front porch {HERE}. However, I still wanted it to feel cozy, calming and full of natural elements that really showcase the beauty and charm of fall.
Keeping it simple
Above all, I didn’t want it to feel like a lot of work. Fall is our second busiest season here, especially as we try to get ready to become an actual small flower farm next year. Simple was imperative for me this year. And while it may not look simple to you, I promise this was the easiest farmhouse fall porch decor I think I’ve ever put together. I also think that it feels the most “me” out of anything I’ve ever done in this space. After four years, I finally feel like we are finding a rhythm of life with our home.
Sticking with tradition
Usually, I have some element that inspires me when it comes to the farmhouse fall porch decor. Last year, I was inspired by my blue rugs and pink-ish mums. This year, I was loving traditional elements and colors. I was really inspired by our pumpkin patch. We grew traditional pumpkins out there this year and a few flat white boer pumpkins. I just loved the orange color and the nostalgia they produced in me. No one had colorful pumpkins growing up. Everyone had round, beautiful orange gourds and that was all we needed. I loved the simplicity of this year’s patch and I was proud of all it produced.
Farmhouse Fall Porch Decor Elements
Besides sticking with the traditional pumpkins for the farmhouse fall porch decor, I also decided to really play up corn. Each year we put corn on the front porch posts and this year I bought a few extra stalk bushels. Kevin says it feels like a forrest, a nice forrest of corn. (LOL) I love how the extra corn almost creates some privacy on our porch though. I also love how it sounds blowing in the wind.
Besides the pumpkins and the corn, I also used mums and kale for the farmhouse fall porch decor. I’ve used both in the past but this year I tried to keep it simple. Mums are a common fall feature but this year I again decided to go the traditional route and used a beautiful, scarlet red color in the larger planters by the door and the planters by the swing. I used some lighter pink colors in smaller planters just to add a little interest and contrast. The kale produced a nice bit of green among all the fall reds, yellows and oranges.
The wreaths on the front door are a DIY. I used grapevine wreaths and broom corn to create them. You can find the full DIY {HERE}. I love the beautiful colors of the natural broom corn and the texture too. They really add a charming element to the focal point for the farmhouse porch.
Our Welcome Home Sign {FOUND HERE}, our planters {HERE}, the rugs {HERE}, rocking chairs {HERE} and all the other elements on our porch are re-used from previous seasons.
I didn’t buy any new planters, furniture, rugs or anything else this year. (A new swing blanket, yes). Instead I just relied on the corn, pumpkins and the mums to tell the story of our farmhouse fall porch decor this season. And I think it works. What do you think?

I love how your porch turned out. If my deck wasn’t painted dark brown, I would decorate it. But the dark brown paint is a heat magnet. I also love how you incorporated decor from your farm too.
