With summer headed our way, I’m getting excited about all the summertime food and drinks. Lemonade is the one quintessential summer drink that’s on everyone’s menu when the weather warms up. And if you love trying different varieties of lemonade, my Honey Ginger Lemonade is one you should add to your list.
Fresh Squeezed happiness
It can be easy to forget how incredible fresh-squeezed lemonade is between seasons. I actually worked at a Lemonade stand once upon a time at a fair making Lemon Shakeups. They were delicious and our booth was constantly busy. But I have to say, I think that was my first experience with perfectly sweetened, fresh-squeezed lemonade. It’s always a bit magical when you take that first sip.
The Honey Ginger Lemonade is also kind of magical in that it really blends the sweetness of the honey, the tartness of the lemon and the spice of the ginger. Not only is it crisp and refreshing, but it’s also good for you too.
The health benefits of these ingredients
All three of the ingredients in this Honey Ginger Lemonade have some health benefits. And while I’m not a doctor, nurse or nutritionist, many of these benefits have been widely proven.
Lemons can stimulate immunity, reduce the risk of disease and the pulp, rind and juice are full of vitamins.
Ginger is a natural anti-inflammatory. It is also said improves blood circulation and lowers blood pressure, among other benefits.
Honey also has been said to have antibacterial and antiseptic properties and it’s also amazing for your hair and skin because it is a rich moisturizer.
For me this means I don’t have to feel as guilty about drinking this by the bucket. 🙂
How to make Honey Ginger Lemonade
It’s simple to make Honey Ginger Lemonade because you literally just need these three ingredients and water. Although, I do like to garnish it with a little basil too.
Besides the fresh-squeezed lemon juice, there is a honey ginger simple syrup that needs to be made for this recipe. You can make this the day same day you plan to drink it, or you can make the syrup a day or two in advance.
To make the simple syrup you just need to slice the ginger and simmer it in a pot with some water. Then you combine that in the glass with your lemon juice, water ice and enjoy! You can find the full recipe below!
