Make a Shamrock Shake recipe right at home for you and your family this St. Patrick’s Day!
Kevin and I met while working for McDonald’s Corporation. I actually went to take his job in a communications area so he could move over to IT and become the full-fledged computer nerd he was always meant to be. He trained me for a few days, and we were friends for several years before we started dating. Because of that, McDonald’s will probably always be some sort of special place to us.
But, their recipes are pretty top secret. I could never convince anyone there to give me the recipe for the Shamrock shake.
After having kids, I decided I could no longer venture out each time I developed a craving for a Shamrock Shake though. I’d have two kids in tow. Plus, I’d have to share.
Shamrock shake recipe at home
Instead, I created a Shamrock Shake recipe that tastes just as good that we can make at home. In fact, I’ve decided that I like this recipe better.
I love that I can control the portions for myself and the kids. Plus, I can make enough to share without anyone really over doing it.
Shamrock Shake glasses
If you’re looking for fun milkshake glasses, you can find some {HERE}. Sometimes I think having the right glass can make it taste even better. These are also perfect anytime you’re having a birthday party or any sort of fun celebration. We’ve used them on the 4th of July too!
If you’re being more practical and watching portions, I’ve found that 8 oz. mason jars are a really nice size for my Shamrock Shake recipe. They’re enough to give you a taste of that minty-ness without going overboard on calories and sugar. They’re also the perfect size for kid hands. You can find them {HERE}.
My Shamrock Shake recipe
My Shamrock Shake recipe is pretty simple. It includes ice cream, mint extract, whole milk, food coloring (optional), whipped cream and cherries. It’s pretty easy to whip it all up in the blender and serve.
Some fun adds over the years have been swapping out the vanilla ice cream for chocolate to create a chocolate mint shake. I also like to add chocolate chip to the shake or Oreos. So good for an indulgent treat!
Thank you so much for visiting today, friends! I hope that you love this Shamrock Shake recipe and that it makes all your little Leprechauns happy this St. Patrick’s Day – or any day really. My full recipe is below.
