This is the cutest DIY napkin Holder for any football fan or for your Super Bowl Party, which is why I made this. 🙂 We are having a Super Bowl Party here this year. It’s something we’ve never really done mainly because our kids and bedtimes, but as they get older we’ve become a little more lax, especially on fun nights. I’m excited to be DIYing some decor for the Super Bowl this year and this little napkin holder is just the start.
A fast little project
Full disclosure, I don’t know how I came up with this idea. I was thinking about our table and another project I’m making for it and this just kind of came to me. I love that it works as a piece of function party decor. If you’ve followed me for awhile then you know I love functional decor in my. home and I was excited being able to extend that to a party.
I also love that this Football Goal Posts DIY Napkin Holder cost me nothing. I had all the supplies for this so it felt like all I had to do was put a little time into it. As far as time goes, there isn’t actually a lot of hands on time. The piece of this that takes the longest is the dry time. You will need to use a couple coats of paint to cover the wood and then allow the wood glue the dry time it needs before using this. But, you could certainly make this in one day, even with dry time.
Here’s what you need to make the Football Goal Posts DIY Napkin Holder
This isn’t a difficult DIY and there’s not a lot of things you need to make it. We had some leftover 1×1 inch wooden trim pieces leftover from some other project. You can buy one of these from the hardware store and have enough for the whole project. As for the base, we made it out of an extra 1×4 we had laying around. Sometimes the hardware store will let you buy pieces of wood in pieces so check to see if you can get a 1 x12 inch piece of board for the base. Or see if they have a scrap pile and will just give you a piece.
- 2 pieces of 1×1 wood at 2 1/4 inches long
- 2 pieces of 1×1 wood at 3 1/4 inches long
- 4 pieces of 1×1 wood at 2 inches long
- 1 – 4×4 by 1-inch block
- Wood Glue
- Paint colors – A green and a yellow acrylic paint
- Sandpaper – I used something random I found in the garage. I’m guessing it was a medium grit that’s between 60 – 100 grit.
- Miter Saw (This is the one we have {HERE}.)
Making the DIY Napkin Holder
This Football Goal Posts DIY Napkin Holder is pretty simple to make. Essentially, here are the steps:
- Cut the wood to size
- Give the pieces a light sand. You can be a little more aggressive if you want to get rid of all the grooves. I decided to just make sure no one got any splinters and left it at that.
- Paint the wood pieces in the colors you picked.
- Glue the posts together and let it all dry. If you want you can use a wood filler to fill in the cracks between the posts. I just pushed some extra paint in there and called it a day. I didn’t want this project to be overly complicated or time consuming since I just want to be able t pull it out and use it once a year.
That’s pretty much it. You can see how it’s all put together in the photos included here. If you want to make the seams disappear more, you can use a wood filler and then paint at the seams again.
