Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
If your butter isn't soft enough, you can use the microwave to melt it somewhat. Don't go over about 20 seconds. You don't want it to be hot.
Using a hand mixer, mix together your butter, your sugar and brown sugar until it is creamy.
Add your eggs and vanilla and mix on low for no more than 30 seconds. If you mix too long it will harden up the cookies.
Add in your flour, baking soda and salt. You can use the mixer to start to blend but you'll get the best results if you use your hands. If you use a mixer, mix on medium.
Once everything is well combined, add your chocolate chips.
You can chill the dough for 30 minutes if you find it is easier to work with but you don't have to.
Roll the dough into small balls. You can use a spoon to make them uniform size or a melon baller.
Bake for 11 -13 minutes. Repeat with the rest of the dough.
Allow cookies to cool about 20 minutes.
