This year I’m really getting into Halloween. It’s never been my favorite holiday before but with the kids getting older and the Sugar Maple Haunted House that Kevin is going to make a yearly thing, it’s growing on me. I love creating spaces around the house that go along with a spooky theme and Halloween recipes like this beautiful and magical Witches Brew drink recipe!
The history of my Witches Brew Drink
The Witches Brew drink recipe is actually something I’ve wanted to make for years. Once upon a time, there was a product called Vinqi that was a sparkly, purple alcohol and people would use that for these kinds of drinks. Well, even after I searched a liquor store in the Chicago suburbs, I couldn’t find Vinqi. The clerk told me they stopped making it. I thought all hope was lost for making a stunning, shimmery Witches Brew drink.
Fast forward to today. I was determined to make a Witches Brew drink happen. With the Halloween Party coming up, and a few more Witchy and Wizarding nooks in our home, I wanted to keep going with the theme.
Making Blackberry shimmery syrup
So, after a little research I figured out a way to make a homemade syrup that mimics the look of Vinqi, but doesn’t contain alcohol. This means my homemade syrup for the Witches Brew can be used in drinks that are non-alcoholic too! That’s a big bonus because my 9-year-old daughter too one look at this drink and wanted to try it.
My syrup is a Blackberry Simple Syrup that I made with frozen blackberries, water and sugar. To get it to shimmer all you have to do is add some edible luster dust that you can find {HERE}. I suggest doing this before you serve versus prior to refrigerating the syrup.
The flavors in the drink
The rest of the Witches Brew Drink includes Apple Brandy, vanilla vodka, grenadine and lemon lime soda. This is a sweet drink so if you’re looking for something that’s a little dryer, this is probably not for you. I would definitely classify it as a “girlie drink” because that’s what I like in cocktails.
Tips for making my Witches Brew Drink
- I recommend making the Blackberry Simple Syrup the day before. It will feel like much less work and really give it time to thicken. Also, this recipe makes about 2.5 cups of the Blackberry Syrup.
- I recommend making this drink in a shaker with a built in strainer like this one {HERE} with ice, pouring it into each glass (with no ice) and then adding the lemon lime soda to the mix.
- You can make this in larger batches. You could make a pitcher of it, and I think you could even make it in in a punch bowl too. Just adjust the measurements. In this case, I’d add in ice. You want to serve the Witches Brew Drink chilled.
- Here’s the recipe for the non-alcoholic version by the glass. 2 Tbsp. of chilled apple cider, 1 Tbsp. grenadine, ¼ Tbsp. vanilla, 4 Tbsp. magical blackberry syrup with luster dust and top off the glass with lemon lime soda.
Thank you so much for joining me today, friends! I hope you enjoy the Witches Brew drink cocktail and come back to visit again soon! Also, check out this Apple Cider Mimosa {HERE} for a delicious fall twist on a brunch favorite. For more drink ideas, click {HERE}.
