Grilling season is fast approaching and one of my favorite meals to have on the grill is skewers or kabobs. And one of my favorite meats to grill on skewers for a fast and delicious dinner is Kielbasa. My recipe for Kielbasa Skewers on the grill is fast, simple and outstanding. It’s full of protein from the Kielbasa and full of other nutrients from the vegetables that I load onto the skew with it. Plus, my Dijon sauce is the perfect accompaniment!
What is Kielbasa?
Kielbasa is actually the Polish word for “sausage”. So while those of us in the United States have a specific flavor profile in mind when we think if Kielbasa, it’s true meaning is much broader. In Poland, Kielbasa can be any kind of sausage no matter what it it made with – pork, chicken, beef, etc. For this recipe, I am focusing on the American version of Kielbasa, which is a pork sausage that is usually smoked with a more distinctive taste. It pairs well with a variety of vegetables and sauces and often in the U.S. people eat it with sauerkraut or on it’s own. One of my favorite way to use Kielbasa is by grilling in in my recipe for Kielbasa Skewers on the grill.
My seasoning mix for the Kielbasa Skewers
The spices in this recipe are a huge part of it because they really add flavor to those vegetables while complimenting the flavor of the Kielbasa. Also, I used dry seasoning for the Kielbasa Skewers. If you follow along regularly then you know that I’m a big proponent of using fresh herbs as often as possible. However, this recipe just works better with dry spices. My mix includes oregano, parsley, garlic powder, paprika and a few twists of sea salt and pepper.
The vegetables used in my Kielbasa Skewers
I used a variety of vegetables on the Kielbasa skewers because I wanted them to be full of nutrients, fill and colorful. The vegetables I used include yellow pepper, red pepper, zucchini, red onion and baby potatoes. For this recipe you can switch out whatever vegetables you don’t love for something that you would rather have. The only vegetables I don’t advise using are tomatoes because the cook time will just leave them dripping all over the grill and too well done.
If you prefer green pepper, switch it out for the colorful peppers I used.
If you want to make this meal low carb, remove the potatoes and add in some yellow squash or even some broccoli instead.
The creamy Dijon dipping sauce
As I mentioned earlier, people in the United States tend to eat Kielbasa with sauerkraut. However, they also tend to eat the sausages with mustard. (This also applies to German Sausages and Bratwursts.) That tangy flavor profile goes incredibly well with Kielbasa and I knew I couldn’t leave it out of my Kielbasa Skewers recipe.
My creamy Dijon dipping sauce includes Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, lemon juice and honey. Not only does it work perfectly with the Kielbasa on the skewers, but it tastes phenomenal with the vegetables too.
Tips for making my Kielbasa Skewers with creamy Dijon dressing
- This recipe makes a lot of skewers. This is perfect for an evening when entertaining or a dinner with four or more people. I got about 10 skewers out of this with 4 Kielbasa sausages. Each skewer had three or four pieces of meat so keep that in mind when serving. We each ate just over 2 skewers. You can also remove everything from the skewers and let people eat the meal that way.
- For the potatoes I used baby Dutch potatoes that were very small. If you can’t find these you can technically use any potato. Just make sure to slice them no more than 1/2 and inch thick so they cook through properly.
- For storing, remove everything from the skewers and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. The Kielbasa and vegetables will keep for about 48 hours.

These Kielbasa skewers looks so delicious, we sometimes cook them, but I haven’t tried them with the Dijon dipping sauce. Now I need to create that sauce and try them that way.
These skewers sound different. I don’t think I’ve ever had a sausage on a skewer before. I love the addition of the veg, yum! It sounds pretty healthy as a meal as you can vary the amount of sausage.
