When it comes to witchcraft and wizardry, it doesn’t get much more iconic than Harry Potter. And Halloween and Harry Potter seem to go together like candy and pumpkins. From the costumes to the Harry Potter Halloween decor to the wondrous magic conjured up by the books and movies, Harry Potter is a Halloween theme (and a party theme) that seems like it will last for generations.
About this time last year my daughter developed an infatuation with Harry Potter. In fact, at one point she wanted her room to be decorated like Harry Potter. I scoffed at that idea a little bit at the time. I don’t do character rooms because my kids lose interest too fast.
But now, I’m the one that seems to have developed a Harry Potter infatuation! Specifically, the Harry Potter Halloween decor.
Adding in a little Wizarding magic
When I decided to go in the Witch and Wizard direction with my Halloween decor this year, I started by thinking about my Witchy Halloween fireplace. But then I stumbled upon a few magical Harry Potter items and decided a little wizard corner would be the perfect addition to our home for spooky season. Not too scary for my daughter, but still fun for my son.
I decided to make a nook by the front door. I wanted it to look like a corner in a Hogwarts wizard or witch’s office. Similar to my Witchy Halloween Fireplace Décor, I wanted this space to feel full of life and a little bit cluttered with magical things, school things and of course, wizarding things. So not only are there potions, but there’s also books on gardening and history.
Additionally, there’s little things like a handwringing chart and a note card on palm readings. Because I feel like they had to study Muggle school things in addition to wizardry.
I kept the colors for this space rich, like the colors you might find at Hogwarts itself, with a bit of a regal and antique flare. It helps that the table in this space is a French antique from the 1800s. 🙂 It really set the stage here.
But I concentrated on using browns, dark wood tones, blacks, Earthy greens, golds and threw in a touch of red with the taper candles. It really makes it feel warm and almost cozy. If there was a chair here I might just sit and write here. I love the fun space!
I also wanted to add in a bit of cobwebs to help bring the height of the Harry Potter Halloween decor. I added in the grapevine spiders for a little touch of Aragog.
Harry Potter Halloween decor pieces
Here are the Harry Potter specific pieces I bought that helped to make up the space:
- Hedwig Owl – This is actually a bank and my daughter has already laid claim to it after Halloween ends.
- Harry Potter Time Turner Clock – One side is an hour glass and one side is an actual clock.
- Nagini Double Snakehead Mirror – This piece was an investment but I see it as being part of our Halloween decor forever, even if there comes a time where Harry Potter Halloween decor falls out of favor. I will say, the shape makes it difficult to clean. Otherwise, I love it!
- Hogwarts Acceptance letters – These have actual letters in them and they’re addressed to my kids! They don’t know that yet though. I’m going to give them the letters after Halloween. I was going to make these but I found a woman on Etsy who makes them and loved her personalization style. You can find them {HERE}. I imagine some kids would love these as holiday gifts and birthday presents.
- Crystal ball lamp – This is unfortunately no longer available {HERE}. I’m adding the link in case they get it back in stock. Generally, they will bring it back each Halloween. It is available right now on Posh Mark.
- Screaming Mandrake root – I don’t have this yet. Sadly, I order it in the beginning of September from Etsy but the man who makes them is busy this time of year. However, I am expecting them this week so I’ll add a shot of them when they arrive! He molds them so they look really amazing and he gets rave reviews. You can find them {HERE}.
Pieces repurposed for the Harry Potter Halloween Entry
- Brass Booker topper candle holders – I bought these earlier this year for something and I love them!
- Trunks & Suitcases – The trunks and boxes that you see in the display are mainly from Hobby Lobby. They were inexpensive and it’s mainly because they’re not real wood. But, they do make great props! One of my suitcases and the lock are from a local vintage store here. I checked there first for all the supplies. I’d rather have those items, but you can’t always find those special things on demand.
- Grapevine Spiders – I actually bought these for something else and was able to use them here. They’re also in the Witchy Halloween fireplace decor and I love them. They’re great quality and the grapevine makes them look a little harry.
- The globe – This was from a local antique shop. Its colors and size made it perfect for the Harry Potter Halloween entry!
Harry Potter Halloween pieces I made
I made the fun Harry Potter potion bottles you see throughout the display with my daughter. You can find a full post with the instructions {HERE} and you can get my free printable labels for them too!
Additional pieces in the Harry Potter Halloween Entry
The stacks of books are something I knew I wanted in the space. Again, I wanted them to feel like a Hodge podge of books from Witchcraft to maybe some herbal magic. Some of these book are hollow and the backwards books are vintage titles that I didn’t feel fit. But, they’re still useful by flipping them around!
So, what do you think of the Harry Potter Halloween Entry Space? I’d love to hear your comments below.
