Sometimes when I decided to work on a project, it expands in ways that really add additional life to whatever I’m creating. This is how my Halloween buffet set up came to be. Originally, I wanted to create a witch tablesscape. That turned into a Samhain tablescape, which turned into me learning about all the glorious food during Samhain. Which turned into me creating a buffet area to serve it from. You can see how my mind kind of snowballs things, right?
So I wanted to share with you a few things I did to create our Halloween buffet.
Dark and spooky
First, I stuck with dark theme for the Halloween buffet table that was similar to my Samhain Halloween table. I covered a large counter-height table we have with black fabrics in lace and cheesecloth. This helped to set the tone in this space. I also attached some black webbing to the brick wall. It actually just stuck onto there by itself with little help from me. This moodiness created the perfect tone for the space. It also complicated my table really well.
I used some of the same DIYs from the Samhain table to complete the Halloween buffet look. Then I lit the space with candles to create a spooky but intimate ambiance.

Food for the Halloween buffet
As I looked into the origins of Halloween, I decided to make the food for the Halloween buffet more authentic to the original holiday of Samhain versus a bunch of food with eyes. So I created a menu that consistent of food that would support the end of harvest celebration.
This would have included a lot of squash dishes, fruits from the season, “cakes” that in that time and place were more like biscuits and spiced drinks. The Halloween buffet menu included:

Details , details, details
One of my favorite things about the Halloween buffet table is the little details. There’s probably some things you can’t even see unless you were here in person. However, things like the books on the the table were about magics, including garden magic. There were bottles of herbs that decorated the Halloween buffet, something you might find included at a Samhain celebration or a Wiccan celebration for spells.
I also used moss throughout the table to weave in the idea of nature, similar to the Samhain table. I used flowers in vases here too but stopped short of weaving them thought the table. This was mainly a supply issue on my part. All the flowers on the Samhain table were from the garden so I had to take what I needed sparingly since we sell them too. However, I did use plenty of gourds and pumpkins to make the space look festive. I also used pomegranates and apples to decorate the table too since they play such a strong role in Samhain as part of the harvest and the foods.
Thank you so much for visiting today, friends! I hope you enjoy this Halloween table! And I hope you will come back again. Happy Halloween!
