Layers of flavor
When it comes to making my French Onion Roast Beef Slider recipe, it’s really about creating layers of flavor. I believe that layering flavor in all recipes is really kind of the key. (Along with salting appropriately.)
First, I start this with Hawaiian Roll. Let’s be honest, when you’re making sliders is there really any other sweet, delicious roll you want to use? Probably not.
Then adding on thinly sliced roast beef is the way to go. I like to lay several slices over all of the rolls to make sure the sandwiches feel, well, beefy. Ideally, you want to have about three pieces of roast beef laying across each roll.
Gruyère cheese is one of the most delicious cheeses out there and I used it here instead of provolone because of it’s creamy, sweet consistency. It also is the typical cheese that’s used on a french onion soup.
That brings me to the onions in the French Onion Roast Beef Slider recipe. They’re so important! Make sure to caramelize them appropriately. Take a little more time and keep stirring. Use extra olive oil to start with as explained in the printable recipe and then add butter. The olive oil has a higher burn rate than the butter so you always want to start with this when caramelizing in a saute pan.
Making the French Onion Roast Beef Slider recipe
- Making this recipe is simple. In fact, it’s probably one of the easiest recipes you will find.
- First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Then cut the buns lengthwise and set the tops aside.
- Tips for making this French Onion Roast Beef Slider recipe
- You only need about half a pound of roast beef for this recipe. I like to add 2-3 slices across the rolls and that’s plenty.
- You can use provolone cheese if you can’t find Gruyere. But, try to fin Gruyere. It’s so creamy and delicious that I feel like it truly elevates the sandwich.
- When it comes to making the butter topping, mix the spices into it so you can get them evenly distributed across the tops of the buns.
- You can also make this in full-sized sandwiches. Swap out the Hawaiian rolls for full sized buns and then follow the recipe directions. If you’re making more than 4, you might have to give them a little more time in the oven.
- You can save these in an airtight container for about 1 day in the refrigerator. I feel like the bread starts to act a little funny if you let them go longer than that.
