Faux outdoor trees will help you keep things looking nice and green season through season. Check out a few of my favorites below and see if any of them will work in your home!
I’m biting the bullet this year and buying faux outdoor trees for the front and back porch. This is embarrassing for me on multiple levels because, well, I grow things. Lots of things. But when it comes right down to it, I’m too tired to remember to always take care of the things on the porch.
Additionally, growing trees in planters really takes a lot of work. From understanding the soil, having the right planter and making sure to water, fertilize and trim – it is another project for me. And personally, my brain just doesn’t have the capacity right now to do a deep dive on that and really learn. Among the small flower farm, the animals, the kids, the pottery studio and the vegetable garden, I just don’t feel like I have the bandwidth for more.
Why faux outdoor trees?
Simply, faux outdoor trees or artificial outdoor trees will make make my life easier. They will (ideally) hold up from season to season and look great and green.
Not to mention, each time we lose a real tree in a planter it’s about $60 down the drain. Saving money is always an attractive option. While these will be an upfront investment, the fact that they can’t die will save me money in the long run. So, I’m giving in this season and going with faux outdoor trees in our porch planters.
In case you’re tired of trying to get the pretty-tree-in-a-planter-look too, I thought I would share a few of my faux outdoor tree finds with you. I’ve purchased some of them already and I’m just now waiting for the weather to shift so I can put them outside. It’s been up and down here lately with 40 degree weather shifts
Things to look for
There were two things I needed to have in order to purchase AND keep faux trees.
1. I need them to hold up to the sun, which means they need UV protection. Our back patio is full sun and in the summer it is intense. Just like I don’t want to buy real trees each season, I don’t want to buy faux outdoor trees each season either. Even though they often come two for the price of one, they aren’t much cheaper than the real trees. I’m just hoping they’ll stand the test of time.
2. They need to actually look authentic. The two sets I’ve ordered so far. This one {HERE} and this one {HERE}, which are the same tree by the same company but in different sizes, look amazing! I’m putting the larger ones on the back porch and the smaller ones on the front porch. The planters I’m using are in the photo below…because those trees died last September…
I’m not huge on topiaries but I’ve found some below that get really good reviews. You can also see my whole list at my Amazon store {HERE}.

I love all of these! I am all about artificial since I tend to accidentally kill plants.

I love these topiaries! My favorites are the little spirally trees. Isn’t it fun when we can start decorating the porch in Spring?
I can totally understand why this would be a thing. I know where I am it’s hard to grow trees other than mesquite.

Luckily most of them are sold in twos!
