Come and see how I decorated for Christmas in the library this year and get inspiration for your Christmas home. Save the images you love to Pinterest so you can remember for decorating each season!
The library is my favorite space in the house. It has become a little retreat for me and also now functions as my office since I turned my old office into the laundry room. And while I love the room year-round, decorating for Christmas in the library is always one of my favorite things to do.
Unlike the family room, which I always try to keep a little less formal and lighter, the library space gets to be a little more grown up. The colors are always a bit deeper and richer and the textures always a little more varied. This year was no exception and I focused on maroons, amber tones, gold, earthy browns and pine greens.

The Christmas tree in the library
When decorating for Christmas in the library, I always like the tree in here to reflect nature a little more. Since I cannot garden in December it is nice to bring in floral and things that I love about nature to make my tree feel charming and cozy. This season I started decorating with dried hydrangea flowers from the farm. We have plenty of them now and it was so nice to be able to get those pieces right off my bushes.
DIY ornaments for Christmas in the library
The ornaments on the tree for Christmas in the library are mostly homemade. Not all, but a lot of them are ornaments I have handmade this season and over the last few. My goal this season was to make some glass tinted ornaments for the tree. And while I did that, I didn’t end up loving them all. So, I turned them into glass tinted gold leaf ornaments. You an read all about the process for that and find out why I didn’t love them originally {HERE}.
My favorite ornaments I made this year were the Vintage Floral Bird Ornaments made from napkins. Not only did this process give me stunning results, but it went fairly quickly too. You can find out how I made those ornaments {HERE}.
The last ones I made on the tree are from a few seasons ago and they are my rusty vintage ornaments. You can see how to make those {HERE}.

Ribbons, garland and stars
Using ribbons in holiday decor is becoming a very big trend. I love it because it is so simple to hang them and make them feel festive. In this case I hung ribbons from my ceiling, windows and add them onto the tree. I love the maroon colors and how it gives the feeling of a regal kind of Christmas.
The beaded garland I added to the tree is a gold, wooden garland. I found this {HERE} and bought it. I have a very similar garland that I purchased in red too so I knew I would be happy with the look and the quality.
I bought the stars as well this year {HERE}. I really wanted to make these but I just ran out of time. There’s always so much to do each holiday season and some things I plan always just end up rolling off my list. That said, I love how the garland and the stars work with the decor. These worked pretty well. Although I did end up gluing them together and then using a hole punch to hang them from the opposite end with fishing wire.

Mirror garland
The library is kind of odd because it was the original living room in the farmhouse built in 1900. So the room is a little tight (cozy) and while one side has the large windows, the opposite side is where the “library” exists. Kevin made these bookshelves for me in 2023 and the bottom piece here is something I designed and had built for our old house. Luckily, it fit here too. You can read more about that and the bookshelves {HERE}.
In between the bookshelves we have this mirror and I knew I wanted to add garland to it this season. This is actually 2 pieces of larger garland and then several other elements tucked into it to create the full look. I added some simple ball ornaments in coordinating colors with the tree, some fairy lights and a little bow. (Pro tip, buy oversized hair bows to use as part of your decor so you do not have to tie a perfect bow. They come with the clip already attached too.)

Yule log
I also made my first Yule Log this year and I thought it was the perfect coffee table centerpiece for Christmas in the library. It is a log from the yard that Kevin drilled some holes into for the candles. I did glue them into it, but I will be able to pick off the glue before putting it back outside. The other elements include dried moss, pine cuttings, more of those dried hydrangea flowers, cinnamon sticks, dried oranges and some little crabapples from our crabapple trees.
