Delicious Blackberry Sage Infused Water is a beautiful flavor combination to quench your thirst and keep you drinking water throughout the day!
Infused waters are really one of the simplest ways to enjoy all different kinds of flavors while increasing your water intake. You can create millions of different flavor combinations and you can customize them to the season, holiday or even the weather that day. I much prefer creating infused waters versus buying them in the store because of the customization ability and freshness. This Blackberry Sage Infused Water is one example of how you can use ingredients you might be growing to create an infused water with a beautiful flavor combination.
Celebrating the seasons
I know when everyone thinks of infused water they probably think of lemon, lime or cucumber. But truly almost any fruit and herb can be used to flavor water – and some vegetables too! I originally made this water for our Halloween Samhain Table {HERE} to celebrate harvest, Halloween and all things good from the Earth. While Blackberries aren’t specially in season in October, their season is just wrapping up July- September in some regions and you can find some great blackberries available in the grocery stores in the fall.
Making sage infused water
Sage on the other hand grows really well in cooler weather. In fact, I have a few plants that I mistakenly planted in garden beds. They’re completely taking over right now. Sage infused water is delicious on its own too. So even if you can’t find the blackberries, you can always give sage infused water a try all on it’s own.
There’s actually a lot of potential health benefits to using sage too. However, like I said I made this for a Halloween table so I pulled in sage primary because of it’s flavor and association with cleansing rituals. In many religions and cultures across Europe, Africa and even in United States Native American cultures, sage it used to heal, keep bad spirits at bay, purify people and places and for healing.
An added benefit in making this for Halloween is that the blackberries will turn the water various colors depending on how many blackberries are use. You can end up with deep purple water or even kind of murky grey. Perfect for Halloween.
Before making the Blackberry Sage infused water
Before you make the Blackberry Sage Infused Water make sure to clean everything really well. There’s nothing worse than making water with a little dirt infused into it too. Soak the blackberries in a bowl of water for a few minutes and then strain them. Pat them off to get any stuck on dirt. Be carefully not to push too hard. You want to make sure to save all the flavor for the water. You don’t want the juices to start coming out.
For the sage, wash it thoroughly and then shake it. Wash it again. Shake it again and then pat it dry between two paper towels. Be care not to crush it because again, that will release the flavors. You want to save all that for the water.
The beautiful flavor combination
While I created this water for a Halloween table, I truly believe Blackberry Sage Infused Water is a beautiful, refreshing combination that can be enjoyed year-round. The blackberries’ tarty sweetness goes perfectly with sage leaves’ astringency and flavor warmth. The flavors are magically balanced – one might say. 🙂 Not only do they work together in water, but they also work together in sauces, desserts, breads and jams.

Blackberry Sage Infused Water
Equipment
- Mixing container
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup fresh blackberries
- 3 sprigs sage with the leaves attached
- Water
- Ice
Instructions
- Add the cleaned blackberries and sage to a pitcher and muddle. You can use a wooden spoon for this if you don't have a muddler that's long enough. This will break open the flavors in the berries and the sage and allow them to infuse the water.
- Add in ice.
- Fill the container with cool water.
- Serve chilled.
- You can also make this by the glass by using a few leaves of sage and about 5 blackberries. Muddle and then fill with ice and water.
This water sounds delicious. I’ll have to give it a try.
I would never have thought of pairing blackberries and sage, but I think you’re right — they would balance each other beautifully!
Blackberry sage infused water sounds like it would taste delightful, I think the only thing that could make that even better is being able to carbonate my own water!
This is the best way to start drinking more water during summer! A must try recipe!

This sounds like an amazing combination! I haven’t made infused water in ages. Sage is one of those herbs I don’t use often, and it would be fun to make this refreshing water.
